Opera Café Fried Poached Eggs, New Zealand

The other day we ate at the Opera Café in Havelhock North, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. I was surprised when I got my dish of lentil with poached eggs, rocket and harissa. Take a look at these eggs- they are first poached, then breaded and deep fried. I have no idea how this was accomplished while still leaving the yolk runny. That is quite a trick.

I have some idea, but man... that looks DELICIOUS! wowo! I would love to try it.... I'm thinking that the oil is hot enough that the breaded egg is flashed fried. I want to try!

Wow! What a tasty dish! I have eaten something like this before but the egg was only poached. I would say the process would have to be meticulous.

How cool! I'm guessing after poaching the eggs they are placed in an ice bath to get them as cold as possible, then drained and dried well before breading in the usual way before dropped into very hot deep oil to briefly brown up on the outside. This is the kind of fun dish I love to find in restaurants. I would think this was delicious.

Those wily Kiwis -- I have no idea how they did it either, but now I'm dying to hop a plane to NZ and experience it for myself!! I'm forwarding your blog to some friends who are considerig a NZ trip next year. They love wine and I'm sure they would appreciate poached/fried eggs!

Don't know how they did it - but do tell - was it delicious?

--It was absolutely fantastic! The spicy harissa really made it in my opinion. It cut through the richness of the eggs.
